Thank you for your continued support. • Parents’ Evenings at Ysgol Pen Barras: The Parents’ Evenings at Ysgol Pen Barras will be held after school on the week beginning October 19th. From next Monday onwards, (12/10/26) please contact the school office to arrange a date and time to meet your child’s class teacher. • Concert Arrangements 17/10/26 • Secondary School Language Stream Questionnaire • As part of the primary/secondary transition arrangements for schools within the Ruthin Cluster, we have arranged for Mr Trefor Jones, Headteacher of Ysgol Brynhyfryd, to visit Ysgol Pen Barras to meet with parents of pupils in Years 5 and 6 to discuss the provision and curriculum offer available to pupils as they prepare to transfer to secondary school. Mr Jones will visit the school on Wednesday, 14 October at 5.30pm to give a presentation to parents in the Ysgol Pen Barras hall. This visit follows Ysgol Brynhyfryd's Open Evening this Thursday and will provide parents with a further opportunity to hear about the provision at the school and to ask Mr Jones any questions following the Open Evening. We very much hope that a good number of parents of pupils in Years 5 and 6 will be able to attend the session. To assist us with the arrangements, we would be grateful if you could indicate on the questionnaire below whether you intend to attend the session. Please respond by Friday, 9 October. https://forms.cloud.microsoft/e/sEBgcKHQt7 • Considerate Parking Polite Request: As Headteachers of Ysgol Pen Barras and Ysgol Stryd y Rhos, we would like to kindly remind everyone to use the appropriate parking bays when using the car park on our Glasdir school site. We have noticed that the designated disabled parking bays are sometimes being used by vehicles that are not displaying a Blue Badge. Unfortunately, this can prevent Blue Badge holders who genuinely need these spaces from being able to park close to the school. In the interests of fairness, accessibility and inclusion, we kindly ask that the eight designated disabled parking bays are kept available for Blue Badge holders only. There is ample parking elsewhere within the school car park. To help us ensure that these bays remain available for those who need them, members of the school leadership team may occasionally speak with drivers or check vehicles using these spaces. We hope everyone will understand that this is simply to ensure fair and appropriate use of the designated bays. Thank you for your understanding, consideration and cooperation in helping us keep our school site accessible to everyone. • Dechrau canu, dechrau canmol • Kickit Sports Half Term • Just a short message to let you know that the Year 5 and 6 Football Club after school this Thursday will be postponed. This is because Ysgol Brynhyfryd’s Open Evening is taking place on the same evening, and we appreciate that a number of children in Years 5 and 6 and their parents will wish to attend. We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you very much for your understanding. • Years 5 & 6: We would like to remind the children of year 5 and 6 not to bring toys and trinkets to school, in case they break or get lost. • We understand that parents receive a considerable amount of information and correspondence from Ysgol Pen Barras, whether by email, through the school app, our website or social media. Recently, a few technical issues have meant that some parents have not received emails or newsletters as usual. In order to make it as easy as possible for everyone to access school information in one place, we would like to encourage parents to download our official school app, which is available free of charge. The app is available through the App Store (Apple) or Google Play Store (Android). Simply search for Ysgol Pen Barras (Schoolsays.co.uk) and you will see the school logo. Once you have downloaded the app, all our newsletters will be conveniently available in one place. You can also use the app to view term dates and events, including practices, clubs and other activities. As a trial, we will be sending our weekly newsletter tomorrow via the app. We will, of course, continue to use email, particularly for messages relating to specific units, classes or activities. Our aim is simply to make things easier for parents and to ensure that important information can be accessed quickly and easily. Thank you very much for your continued support and cooperation. • Halloween Decorate a Plate • Staffing Update 28/9/26 • We have been asked to share this message with parents by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. A vaccination team will visit the school to offer an NHS flu vaccine on November 6th 2026. Please complete consents forms no later than October 30th 2026. The NHS recommends that school-age children have a flu vaccine every year to help to protect them against potentially serious illness. More than 200 children tested positive for flu at hospitals in North Wales last winter. We have already seen at Ysgol Pen Barras at the start of this new academic year a number of pupil sickness absences. To complete the form online and for more information – including a video introduction to the vaccine and animations for your child – please click here or visit bcuhb.nhs.wales/SchoolFlu • Cross Country Running Competition • CogUrdd 2027 • CROSS COUNTRY - IMPORTANT - We would like to remind you to complete the consent form if you would like your child to take part in the cross-country competition on Wednesday, 23rd September. As it stands, a significant number of children have expressed an interest in participating, but we have not yet received consent forms from everyone. Please note that no pupil will be able to take part in the event without a completed consent form submitted in advance. The link to the form can be found here. We are also looking for parents/carers to support us on the morning by walking with the children from the school to the rugby club and back again. If you are available to help, we would greatly appreciate your support. Please contact the school office if you are able to volunteer. Thank you very much for your cooperation and support. • Ysgol Pen Barras updated use of Social Media • An After-School Football Club will be held for Year 5 and 6 children every Thursday until half term. The first session will take place this week (Thursday, 17 September, 3:30pm–4:00pm). There will be separate training sessions for the boys and girls, as they will be preparing for the Urdd football competitions, which take place during the term. We kindly ask parents to arrange to collect their children from the main reception at 4:00pm. The boys’ sessions will be run by Mr Wynne Davies, Mr Arfon Thomas and Mr Phillips, while the girls’ training sessions will be led by Miss Mabli Fitzgerald and Miss Elen Jones. Mixed football sessions for Year 4 children will be held within the next few weeks. Further details will follow. • Letter - Head Lice • Head Lice fact sheet • Minor ailments services • Newsletter 10/9/2026 • The Denbighshire Active Communities Cross Country Competition will be held on Wednesday, 23rd September at Ruthin Rugby Club. The competition is open to pupils in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6. Years 3 and 4 will be running 1km and Years 5 and 6 will be running 1.5km. If your child would like to take part, please complete the consent form using the link here. • After School Club Update: I would like to give parents advance notice that the Ysgol Pen Barras After School Club will be closed on the following dates during the term: Thursday, 22 October – due to the Halloween Disco organised by the Parent and Teacher Association. Thursday, 26 November – due to the Christmas Fair organised by the Parent and Teacher Association. The breakfast club will be open as normal on these dates.
